She's growing up so quickly that moments like this make me especially happy...like perhaps she's still my little girl.
Although T would be at summer school, V still wanted to know which shop was hosting the village playdate so she could decide whether or not the two of us would go. Once she secured that information, she determined we'd defnitely go this morning. And she told me to wake her up early so she wouldn't miss it. Completely out of character for her during summer break, she got up quite early today. I told her she could go back to bed and get up in a couple of hours! And she did! Fell right back to sleep.
When the time finally came, we got her a blueberry bagel for breakfast and walked over to check out the playdate activity. It was foam crowns with those cute stick by the number sparkly foam dots. I wasn't sure what she'd think, but she was absolutely thrilled, stayed there until the project was complete and took one home for her brother. (This photo is with Susan. She's German and is one of the friends we've gained at this shop. Yes, the people at the village kids shops definitely know us since T and I are there weekly.)
I should have known - she does still like crowns. She says she's not into princesses anymore, but she doesn't hesitate to provide herself with her own crown on her birthday. Still. And she recently told me her favorite headband was the tiara. I'm so glad. We picked it up when she was quite little, the first time we took her to France. We got lucky and discovered we were there during one of the few sale times of the year. While in a little boutique in Paris purchasing a classic grey wool coat for her, I saw the pretty tiara headband. I added it to the purchase and it was rung up before we asked the price. 10 euros. John thought that was steep and that we should forgo it. But the purchase had already gone through. And years later, I'm still glad it did! So is she!
